But it was this class of cute kids who sang this song in perfect harmony that made this song even more beautiful. Coca-Cola used this song to create a beautiful commercial.

Finally! I broke into my own house!

This is quite a funny story that happened to me yesterday. My parents had left for Bangalore early in the morning and I was working at night. I reached home at about 7:30 in the morning. The way back home was not good since it rained at night and my street was filled with muddy water. As soon as I entered the gate I emptied my pocket and washed my muddy shoes and the mud off my pants. When I reach the door I realized that I did not have the keys.

I was locked out of my own house with no spare keys. I was homeless for the entire weekend. I decided to break in. Now let me explain about the door. Its an Iron Door with a latch and a padlock. The door is not strong enough as it was an additional door. Luckily I had the key for the other door or I would have had to break two doors to get in.

There is a shed in my garden where we keep most of the tools. But last year's rain had broken down a part of the shed. So my dad shifted some of the tools back inside the house. I looked for a hammer but didn't find one. I found a crow bar, placed it in-between the loop of the padlock and pushed it with all the strength I could use.

After 30 minutes of attempt to break open the pad lock I realized that it was not possible since the holder is weaker than the lock itself. After all this struggle, I noticed that the holder was bent in a bad shape but it did not have any effect on the padlock.

Frustrated, I slowly walked around my garden and that's when I found it on the ground. Apparently I had my key with me and I must have dropped it when I emptied my pocket. Thinking about my stupidity and the valuable 30 mins that I wasted, I picked up the key and tried to open the lock. Looked like there was a little damage done to the lock as it was not opening. I pressed the locked hard and tried to turn the key and after a few attempts I was finally able to open it.

Now all that was left was to pull the latch and get in. But the story was not over. The damage on the holder was bad enough that the latch was stuck and it was not coming off. I picked up the crow bar and started hammering the holder in the opposite direction, but in vein. No matter how hard I hit the holder, was not able to bring it back to shape. I searched the shed again and found an iron filer. I placed the filer in between the latch and tried to pull it out. After another 15 mins of struggle I was finally able to pull the latch out. And what are the effects of dropping the keys? Damaged lock, damaged latch in the door and I had to break into my own house.

Feb 21, 2010 - South Africa lost to India by 1 run.
Chasing a stiff 299, they were reduced to 180 for 7. But then brilliance of Kallis helped them to get to 290 for 8. Unable to withstand the pressure they lost their last two wickets easily hence losing by 1 run.

Jan 15, 2011 - South Africa lost to India by 1 run.
Chasing 191, they were 152 for 4 when they lost 6 wickets for only 37 runs losing by just 1 wicket.

Mar 6, 2011 - South Africa lost to England by 6 runs.
Chasing a mere target of 172, they were 124 for 3 when they lost 7 wickets for 41 runs.

South Africans have a history of World Cup chokes. They 'Choke to Death' in all the World Cups. Here is their famous history.

1992 World Cup:

South Africa was facing England in the Semi-Final. They needed 22 to win off 13 balls. Rain interrupted play for 2 overs. When play resumed, the target was revised to 21 to win off 1 ball. The most unluckiest way to get out of the World Cup.

1996 World Cup:

It was the Quarter-Final and South Africa were facing West Indies. Needing 265 to win, South Africa were 186 for 3. They then lost the next 4 wickets for just 12 runs, which ended up losing the game by 19 runs and knocked off the World Cup.

1999 World Cup:

Who can ever forget the magnificent Semi-Final between South Africa and Australia. Being a nail-bitter, South Africa needed 9 runs off the last over with only 1 wicket in hand. Lance Klusener hits two boundaries off the next two balls thereby needing just 1 run to win off 4 balls. And then the silliest thing happens. Klusener pushes the ball and runs a quick run and Alan Donald just stands there looking at the ball. Both the batsmen ends up in the same side of the wicket and an easy run out ties the game. Since Australia had higher points compared to South Africa, they enter the finals and South Africa crashes out of the World Cup.

2003 World Cup:

South Africa had a forgettable World Cup at home. But a win off the final league match against Sri Lanka will see them into the Super Six Stage. Due to the rain, the target for South Africa was revised to 230 off 45 overs, meaning they need 7 runs to win off 2 balls. Mark Boucher hits a SIX which made South Africa need just one run off the last ball. Boucher then defends the last ball without even attempting a run. What the hell happened there? Someone had told Boucher that it was only 6 runs to win off the last two balls. After the SIX he assumed that the game was won and he didn't bother to run off the last ball. The tie in this match meant that South Africa did not have enough points to get to Super Six and they crashed out of the World Cup.

2007 World Cup:

Well, this is the only World Cup were South Africa did not choke but they just gave it away during the Semi-Finals against Australia. Winning the toss and batting first, South Africa lost all their wickets for 149. Australia chased down the score with no trouble at all.

2011 World Cup:

So far South Africa have reach the Quarter-Final which they are to play against New Zealand today. Will they choke in the Quarter-Finals? Or will they choke in the Semi-Finals? They have never been to a World Cup Final. I really wish they would enter the Finals this time. Let's wait and watch.

Edited after the Match:

The chokers choked again. With 222 to win against a feable New Zealand attack, South Africa were 121 for 3. 100 to win with 7 wickets in hand. And guess what? They lose 4 wickets for the next 11 runs and ends up with 172 all out. Will they ever be lucky?

South Park is surrounded by Aliens

If you had watched the episode 'Cancelled' (S07E01) you might have known that 'Earth' is a TV show produced by the Aliens and that the 'anal probe' is a TV signal transmitter. The most common routine of South Park is Kenny dying in almost every episode. But do you know that every episode of South Park has aliens hidden in secret places? India in a Dilemma!

Today is India's last league match. It's against West Indies. At the beginning of the World Cup India was said to be the favorites. But now people doubt if they will get to the Semis. India must win to keep up their hopes. India must win to bring back the confidence. But now they are in a bit of a bother. If India win against Windies they will have to face Australia in the Quarter-Final. That could be the end of the campaign for India. What are they gonna do? Win against the Windies and face Australia in the Quarter-Final or lose against the Windies and face Sri Lanka? Let's wait and watch.

Hachikō - The Faithful

While surfing through the net I came across across this wonderful story of Hachikō the faithful dog. Hachikō is a Japanese Akita dog. In 1924 Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor took Hachikō as a pet. Hachikō used to greet its master everyday at Shibuya Station when the professor returns from work.

In May 1925, the professor suffered from cerebral hemorrhage and died and never returned to the station. Hachikō continued to wait at the station everyday for its master for the next nine years. This faithful act of Hachikō attracted the attention of the commuters. This faithful act of Hachikō was honored by the Japanese and a bronze statue was erected at the station. Also one of the exits at the station is named as 'Hachikō Exit'

Gran Torino

Its been a long time since I felt like writing about a movie I saw. Gran Torino, directed and produced by the man, more famously known as 'The Man With No Name' than Clint Eastwood. At first I saw this movie's commercial in Star Movies. Once while surfing the net I saw that imdb had rated this movie 8.4. I thought I will give it a shot and downloaded the movie without even reading the synopsis.

I like Clint Eastwood and his movie. 'The Man With No Name' trilogy was of course the best. But there is no point in watching any of his movies without watching the trilogy. Cause those movies set a benchmark for his characterization. Once I made a mistake of watching one of his movies before watching the trilogy and I didn't like the movie at all. But then after watching the trilogy I saw the same movie again and only then I realized the specialty of that movie. Gran Torino is no different. If you had watched the trilogy and loved it, you will like this movie.

Clint Eastwood is no longer a young cowboy. But he is the only actor in this world who can portray an Action Hero even at an age of 78. Even at an age of 78 'Get off my lawn' sounds really dangerous and 'I blow a hole in your face and sleep like a baby' sounds like he is a person who means each and every word that comes out of his mouth. Even though the movie is slow, as it gets to the climax, it gets as thrilling as the trilogy.

Overall I would rate this movie 9/10, mostly for Clint's acting and for reminding me the great climaxes of the Man With No Name trilogy.

Well, I haven't blogged for quite sometime now. The last few months of my life had been fast and busy. But never would I have imagined that I will be writing this post from office.

Yes, its the 1st of January and I'm at office. What to do? Situation gone tough. I seem to start my year with woes everytime I guess. Let's push it aside. First I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year.

2010, the one after a slow and the worst of my life, had been a good year. In fact, one of the best. It had been a year with a lot of surprises. I never expected myself to be in this situation, six months back. It has given me hopes to look forward to the new year. Hopefully, 2011 has stored in a lot of surprises for me.

Again I would like to wish you all a very happy new year.

Who is Mysterion?

If you are a fan of South Park, you would have watched the episode, "The Coon" (S13 E02), where Cartman poses as a superhero calling himself as "The Coon" and a mystery superhero, who calls himself "Mysterion" steals his show. At the last scene of the episode Mysterion removes his mask and Mr. Garrison says, "He's in my class", but everyone has the similar face in South Park. Hence the mystery of the Mysterion was left a mystery.

The latest episode of South Park, "The Coon 2: Hindsight", brings back the Coon and the Mysterion along with few new superheros forming a team called, "Coon and Friends". This is a two part episode (the second part will be played next week).

The superheros in this team are:

Coon = Cartman
Toolshed = Stan
Iron Maiden = Timmy
Tupperware = Token
Mintberry Crunch = Bradley (A new blond guy)
Mysterion
Mosquito
Human Kite

The identity of Mysterion, Mosquito and Human Kite were left a mystery. Before the end of the episode, the team without the mask is shown. So Mysterion, Mosquito and Human Kite could possibly be Kyle, Kenny and Clyde (not in order).

The way Cartman beatsup Mosquito makes me think Mosquito could be Kyle. So Mysterion could either be Kenny or Clyde.

Cartman always picks up on Kenny as well. In the episode, "The Coon", when Mysterion unmasks, Cartman was only delighted. I dont think he would have reacted so if he had realized that Kenny was Mysterion. So my guess would be Clyde.

Hopefully, next week, they will reveal who the real Mysterion is.

Too Many, Too Soon!

Well, for the last one year my life was moving very slowly. Finished Engineering but still had backlogs, unemployed, and worst of all, sitting vetti at home almost all the time. But things changed after a year, and it changed too quick.

The very next day I finished my backlog exams, I attended an interview at Allsec Technologies for a BPO. I got selected and was asked to join the next day. I made some lovely friends in there within 3 days. Work at Allsec was fun. I worked there for about 2 and a half months and meanwhile one of my friends told me about this job at E4E technologies for an enterprise support. I found this job to lead me to a better future and attended an interview there and got that one too. I'm currently under training there.

Well, that's about my work. My sister gave birth to a girl just a day before my birthday. She is very cute! She is named 'Simra' (meaning Princess). Mom started talking to sis ever since Simra was born. Also a week back my sister brought my niece home for the first time ever. Mom has bonded well with sis but dad is yet to. I guess it will take time for him to come down.

I also bought gifts for my sis' b'day and my niece's naming ceremony from my own salary. It's a pretty nice feeling when things are going so smooth all of a sudden. And all of this happened within a month. I hope life continues to go smooth for the coming months. :)

A Never Ending Game!

It was during the 2004 Tennis French Open when Fabrice Santoro beat Arnaud Clement 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 3-6, 16-14. The match which took place for 6 hours and 33 minutes was considered the longest tennis match ever until day before yesterday.

Wimbledon 2010 was in progress on 23rd of June, when John Isner faced Nicolas Mahut. They had been playing a grueling match for 10 hours and the score-card displayed as 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 59-59. The day grew dark and the match was said to continue the next day (yesterday). But the record was already made.

The match ended with the last set reading as 70-68 as John Isner moved on to the second round. The time read out as 11 hours 5 minutes - The Longest Ever.

Nearly the first 18 yrs of my life I scarcely watched movies. But the last 5 yrs I watched so many movies. Some I liked, some I didn't, some I hated, some I loved and some I couldn't take my mind of. I never watch movies based on genre. I think I like movies of almost every genre. What I really expect in movies are logics and plots. I hate movies where one can guess the ending before the climax.

There are several movies I like but when it comes of logic and plots, the most favorites would be 'Matrix', 'Back to the future' and 'Pirates of the Caribbeans'. Not only that their logics are good but their plots are wide. Especially in Matrix and Pirates, every single word a character speaks has a meaning.

But I want to talk about three special movies that I love the most. These are the movies that I can watch all my life repeatedly and still watch them as if I'm watching for the first time. Two of them were directed by Christopher Nolan, his latest two.

My third favorite is 'The Prestige', directed by Nolan and the cast are Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johnson. This is a movie with a huge plot, different time lines and one of the best suspense thrillers ever. Usually the suspense is at the climax but this movie is full of suspense right from the first act. I have no words to say how brilliant the story line is. I never liked Christian Bale but after watching this, he is one of my favorites.

My second favorite would be, 'The Dark Knight' again by Nolan with Bale and Ledger as the lead. This movie has a cold opening, that is it starts without any title. This is the only superhero movie I ever liked. The director was very clear in what he wanted his hero to be. First time ever logics were used in a superhero movies (there are some flaws but better than no logic at all). He didn't show Batman as the hero who saves everyone, or as the hero who does everything right. That was the main reason I liked this movie. Ledger's acting and Zimmer's music together create such a tension throughout the movie which can't be explained by words. I have seen this movie about 6 times and I will keep watching it. No Doubt!

The most favorite movie of my life would be, 'Rang De Basanti'. All I can say about this movie is that I have seen it 20 times and if someone talk to me about this movie, I would want to watch it again. I seriously have no words to say anything about this movie, this would always be my all-time favorite.

Mysterious Hole in Guatemala City

On the 23rd of February 2007, a 330 foot deep sinkhole swallowed up over a dozen homes in a crowded neighborhood in Guatemala City. Over 1000 people were evacuated and two people were killed. The giant hole emitted a foul stench, tremors and loud noises. The authorities blamed the sinkhole on a ruptured underground sewage flow. Sinkholes are caused by changing geological conditions or by a failure to maintain aging underground pipes and sewage systems, but the common factor in both is usually water. Ground underlain with carbonate bedrock - limestone for example - is most prone to sinking because the bedrock erodes with repeated exposure to water. The rock corrodes and the sediment swells with water and eventually everything reaches a critical mass point. The sinkhole phenomenon appears to be intensifying all over the world as ground water continues to face depletion and earthquakes weaken substrata layers of earth.

Will It Work?

I always wanted to post things that my mind comes out with and where else can I post other than in blogs? I got this idea fairly recent and I have no idea if its possible or not. It may even sound stupid.

I am always a fan of India and am always proud to be an Indian. I strongly hope that India would be a developed country by 2020. Its been 10 yrs since the road to development started. India has changed a great deal in the last 10 yrs but I don't think these changes are fast enough to make us a developed country in the next 10. There is one thing that India must try to concentrate hard and it is 'Science and Technology'. Our S&T has always been lagged compared to the Europeans and Americans. We had never been able to catch up with their S&T. Why is it so?

We always have to wait for Samsung and Sony to bring in LED TVs, Nokia and Sony Ericsson to bring in new technologies in Mobiles, etc. We do not even have HD discs where as in US, HD discs are replaced by Blue-Rays. Why do we always depend on foreign companies to decide when to bring in the technologies to our country? Why isn't there a single Indian company which can try to bring in a new technology on its own before the foreign ones? The answer is simple. The Indian companies cannot afford to waste money doing research, when they can produce hundred more products with the same cost. Instead they wait for the technology to come here so that it is easier to comprehend and also spend less money.

Whereas take ISRO. Its had its own R&D department. It creates its own model of rockets and satellites. And where does ISRO stands? It is One of the 7 Space Departments in the world which launches its own satellites. It is One of the 5 Countries in the world which has its own space program. It may not be the best, but being in top 5 is not an ordinary feat.

So then I came up with an idea (may or may not be possible). Our Government can build an organisation/laboratory which will work only on researches in technologies in every possible field (just like CERN laboratories in Switzerland). This org/lab must try to do research in every new technology that comes up anywhere across the globe. It can sell any successful research to any Indian company so that we can start producing our own products with latest technology and also with good standards. Our govt must maintain an annual budget. It may find its profit by selling the research reports to the companies.

As far as I can see, this org/lab can help not only in improving the technology but also the infra-structure. It opens thousands of job opportunities. Also MS graduates can work here in India rather than working for other countries.

This can also promote the people to buy Indian products as we can meet the same standards of the foreign ones. If this works then it may result in decrease in imports and increase in exports, which is the most important thing for a country to be recognized as a developed one. Remember the old slogan, 'Be Indian Buy Indian'? It may be possible.

I do not have any knowledge on Marketing and so I do not know if this is logically possible. I would love to view your comments (positive or negative). If you think this can work and if you love to see a developed India I would ask you to spread this message. May be it will work.

Karbon Kamaal Catch!

I came across this term while I was searching for some astronomy news across the Internet. I found this to be an interesting fact which I thought I'll share it here. What is Shock Collar. Let's see what Wikipedia explains.

The Prandtl–Glauert singularity or P.G. singularity is sometimes referred to as a vapor cone, shock collar, or shock egg. The point at which a sudden drop in air pressure occurs is generally accepted as the cause of the visible condensation cloud that often surrounds an aircraft traveling at transonic speeds. It is an example of mathematicaly singularity (I don't know what that exactly means. So anyways...). Here are some of the pics of shock collar.

Interference With Eclipse

Here is one of the most spectacular picture taken during the Partial Solar Eclipse on July 22nd, 2009 at Hong Kong. The picture shows a very rare and unusual pattern of sunlight. The pattern seen here is known as the Interference Pattern. This is caused due to the superposition of the direct sunlight and the light reflected from the window grids of the building on the left. (To know more about Superposition of light, check your 12th Physics Book ). This picture was taken from the 27th floor of a building.

District 9

District 9 has been nominated as one of the contenders for Best Movie Award at the 82nd Academy Awards. I'd be much surprised if this movie doesn't win. I know many would say that Avatar would win, but I personally think District 9 is way better than Avatar. A low budget movie which was not even considered to run a month, ended up in Oscar nominations. The reason is the concept is absolutely original. This was one movie that reminded me of none other while watching it.

The plot goes like this. An alien space-ship came to Earth around 20 years back. It doesn't have enough fuel to get back to its planet. The aliens have made a settlement in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Government has allocated an area for the aliens called, "District 9", which soon was converted into an alien slum. Well, this is the first 10 mins of the movie. I rather not say anything else about the movie coz it will end up in spoilers. Watch the movie and you will surely love it.

I personally feel it is 'The Best Movie of the Decade' (apart from Lord Of The Rings). And I would rate it 9.8/10. A Must Watch!

Emergency Number 108

You would have heard about the emergency number '911' is US. A similar kind of emergency toll free number '108' has been introduced in India by Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI). This was introduced in 2005.

108 is basically for police, medical and fire (Prank calls to 108 will be tracked by police). 108 is currently used in 11 states across India and around 2000 ambulances are in use. The Government of India promises to bring it all across the country by 2011 and also bring about 10000 new ambulances.

It's nearly five years since 108 was introduced but none here have even heard about it. Indian Government should have made sure to advertise it properly but all they did was stick bills on buses. Who even bother to read the bills on buses??? I hope the service would be as good as the '911', like in Hollywood movies.

Eeram is the latest movie produced by Director Shankar. The movie was okay (I was expecting a murder mystery). But there was one thing I couldn't believe when I saw or rather i should say, when I heard. The composer of Eeram was Thaman and he did a fairly good job. But I was totally frustrated when I heard a particular sound track which was a perfect copy of 'Stranger', from 'Dark Knight' (Yes, Kavin. The same track which sounds like the train, which you posted in your blog).

You may think its a very common thing, copying BGM from Hollywood. Even I was used to all these but not this time. Its not because I love Hans Zimmer or because I was amazed by the masterpiece of 'Stranger', but because of the complexity of the music. This annoying sound famously composed to hype to tension behind Heath Ledger's Joker was no ordinary music.

That simple sound took Zimmer more than a week to record. Recorded with Cello and Guitar and few other instruments, removing certain frequencies which create the noise, modulating few other frequencies - this was no ordinary feat by Zimmer. And its totally disappointing to hear a local composer copying it with absolutely no pain at all.

The video below will give you an idea of how much of hard work Zimmer went through to record the track (6:27).

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa Songs

Vinnaithanndi Varuvaayaa is the first album by A.R. Rahman for Goutham Menon. Its too early to say this but this could be the best album of the year. ARR proved to be versatile again. The songs are unique and original. It really amazes me on how ARR creates such unique songs even after 18 yrs of composing.

Omana Penne
A very beautiful romantic song. Melodious and the chorus is catchy. The song is calm throughout and it is one of the top songs of the album.

Anbil Avan
A nice dance beat song. Quite catchy! You will enjoy after repeated listening.

Vinnathaandi Varuvaayaa
I'm not a fan of this song but this is another master-piece of ARR. The chords used in this song is totally unique.

Hosanna
Starts as a lonely single but turns up into a heppy tune. My most favorite song of the album. The opening line is very strong. And what else to comment on Blaaze's rap??? The guitar strumming makes all the difference between the heppy part and the romantic part of the song.

Kannukkul Kannai
The Violin intro is really impressive. I have heard many tamil songs of the similar genre but none of them had been good enough. The difference was in the stereo rhythm and the violin intro that made the song more interesting to listen to.

Mannipaya
Another best romantic from ARR undoubtedly. The two unique tunes for the same line 'Oru naal sirithen...' shows the versatility of ARR. Using Thirukural as a stanza is purely original and adds up to the meaning.

Aaromale
ARR is known for composing out of the league tunes for marriage related songs like Maangalyam (Alai Paayuthe) and Kummi Adi (Sillunu Oru Kaadhal). Here is another one. Would anyone think of composing a powerful tune for marriage related song??? The lyrics is in malayalam but when I read through the translation the lyrics sounded equally powerful.

Altogether I feel this is the best tamil album ARR has composed in quite sometime.

B'lore Trip

Me and my friends (Hari, Rohan and Kavin) had planned to have a holiday trip every year starting from '09. But it remained as a plan. Last month I had to go to B'lore for my cousin's 10th b'day party. As Ro was totally bored he decided to join me. Later we convinced Hari too (Kav was in US and he couldn't join). And hence our the trip plan began (even though a year later).

It was a 4-day trip and we decided to cover B'lore and Mysore (Even though 4 days wasn't enough). We boarded the train on 22nd night. Our berth wasn't confirmed, it was only RAC. So we had to share the berth and we couldn't sleep properly that night.

23rd Jan:

We reached B'lore in the morning. The climate was freakishly cold and we were waiting for our auto (a family friend in b'lore booked an auto for us for the entire day). We went went straight to my uncle's house, had breakfast, and made a huge plan for the day and began our journey. We first visited a place called 'Iskcon', a society for the disciples of Lord Krishna. It was a good place to visit whether or not you are a devotee. We then went to 'Sankey Tank', a large tank where boating is available. Unfortunately it was closed. It was noon already. Our next plan was to the museum but we were so tired that we decided to bunk it. We then went to the planetarium. There were a lot of interesting science experiments. We then went for the planetarium show and the funniest part is that all three of us slept off. We realized that we were too tired and so we had lunch in a restaurant and went back to my uncle's place and slept for three hours.

After a good sleep, we went to visit the musical fountain. It was nice in the first few mins but then it was all repetitive. We were about to visit the 'Vidhan Soudha', when the auto broke-down. We paid the auto and walked to the MG Road. It is the best place to spend time for any youngster in India. The road is full of bars, pubs, coffee shops and restaurants. We spent the entire evening there trying out food we never had before.

24th Jan:

It was the party day (cousin's 10yr bday party). Ro decided to visit his grandmother in the morn, while me and Hari went for a walk around the place, promising my uncle that we'll be back on time for the party. Me and Hari walked and walked and we were surprised that we reached on time for the party. The cake was ready and the b'day boy was sitting the b'day hat. But everyone were staring at us. Only when we went inside we realized that the party had already begun (Ro was back only after the party finished). The rest of the afternoon passed by Hari and me scaring my niece with a party snow.

At dusk when everyone left, Hari, Ro and I decided to visit the 'Forum Mall'. We spent the entire evening in the mall looking around various shops and beautiful girls .

25th Jan:

We took a bus to Srirangapatnam in the morning. It was a 3-hour journey from B'lore. We spent the entire time making jokes, having fun and snapping pictures of everything we came across. We were planning to go to 'Balmuri Falls'. We reached Srirangapatnam in the afternoon and we asked for an auto who asked for Rs. 400. We decided to ask someone if there was a bus that leads there. One guy asked us to take a bus to a place he called, 'pompus', and another bus to another destination and a 4km walk. We got into the bus but the conductor was staring at us when we asked for 'pompus'. We repeated our destination another 4 times and there was no reaction from him. Then a guy next to us corrected it as 'Pump House'. It was hilarious.

On the way to the falls we found a restuarant called, "The New Inchara Hotel". The new Inchara fed us some tasty food after which we went to the falls. After the long walk the surprise was awaiting. It wasn't the falls we were expecting. The height of the falls was barely up to my waist.

We spent some fun time in the falls even though Hari refused to come near the water. After maybe the best evening of the trip we went back to Srirangapatnam and boarded a bus to Mysore. We stayed at another Uncle's place for the night.

26th Jan:

We got up in the morning with absolutely no plan at all. We went to the terrace to catch a glimpse of the sunrise behind the famous 'Chamundi Hills'. Looking at the sunrise we decided to go to the hills. We took a bus to the hill top and spent time looking at the shops and beautiful scenery. We were unhappy with the bus journey since we couldn't catch most of the beautiful scenery spots. When we decided to leave I came up with an idea of walking down and both of them agreed. We walked down the entire 7km. People whom we passed through would certainly have thought,"Who are these jerks walking down the hill" as we were the only ones walking down. After a tiring one and a half hour walk we decided to quit the Tippu Palace and everything else in Mysore and decided to go straight back to B'lore.

It was 3pm when we left Mysore but we reached B'lore only at 8. I have no idea what took so long as there wasn't any traffic. We packed our bags and my uncle dropped us to the station. Again our berth was in RAC and again we had to share the berth.

We didn't visit many places at all as 4 days were too short. But we did enjoy the most. About 70% of the budget was spent on food. The year started really well for all of us and we decided to have such trips every year.

Well, this is a song I wrote months ago when I was just sitting at home idle. It was exam time and I had a huge book-fever. I couldn't read a line and my head was throbbing heavily. There was not a single game in my PC and net wasn't working, nothing worth watching on TV. Altogether, it was one longest day of my life and I was almost reaching madness. I don't know how but I ended up writing this song. Hope its good!

Wiki Blunder!

Wikipedia is the best encyclopedia in the world and there is no doubt about it. One day I was so bored that I started browsing, clicking links after links. One led to another and I end up with a news of the death of the actor 'Kunal Singh' of 'Kadhalar Dhinam' fame. I wanted to read more about his death and I tried Wiki search but did not find his page. I found the page 'Kadhalar Dhinam' and clicked on the link to the actor. And here I found the big wiki blunder.

I clicked on the link of actor Kunal but I ended up in the page of 'Kunalan', son of Ashoka the great, emperor of 3rd century BC. I so used to believe that wiki is perfect and I felt very bad when I realized this mistake by wiki.

How Does a Gun Silencer Work?

Well, I was watching so many action movies but every time I see a gun with a silencer I can't stop wondering how it works. As usual I checked on the net and Bingo! I got the answer. But the answer was amazingly simple. There is absolutely no mechanism in a silencer.

All that's required is that, the silencer should be slightly bigger than the gun barrel. That's all it takes to mute the firing sound (not exactly mute though). Well, I'll use the same example as I got through.

Imagine a balloon filled with air. You pop it with a pin and it burst making a huge sound. That is because the air pressure inside the balloon is very high and when the balloon pops, there is a huge drop in the pressure in a very quick time, creating the sound. But when you remove the end of the balloon, the air pressure reduces slowly and hence the sound is very less.

Similarly, in a gun, the gun powder is ignited behind the bullet. The gun powder produces a high pressure pulse of hot air. And as the bullet is out of the barrel, so is the air behind it. The air pressure in the barrel is around 3000 pounds per square inch (psi). So you hear the sound as there is a huge drop in the pressure. But in case of a silencer, when the bullet is out of the barrel, the air is released into a slightly larger volume and hence there is no huge drop of pressure but a considerable one. When the bullet is out of the silencer, the pressure is only 60 psi. Hence the firing sound is so much reduced.

I'm happy as I got through the rough page of my life. But certainly I must be positive about this past year. I learned quite a lot about life. Some of them I remember are...

Never get emotionally attached to any one in life.
Know your limits to each and every person you are acquainted with.
Never consider everyone the same.
Do what you feel important rather than what you think important

I had to learn the first point in the hard way but at least I should be happy that I finally learned it. I really hope this new decade will turn out a better road - if not a highway, at least an expressway

To be honest, this is one of the worst years of my life. Sorry, its "the" worst year of my life. Being the last day of the year I wondered what did I do all this year and I remember no great incident. The only things that come to my mind is that I went for only two movies with friends and had a Mahabalipuram trip. That's all!

I couldn't hang out with my friends nor had a good time with any of them. Almost the entire year I had to be shut inside my house trying to study for my exams. I had to miss two important weddings of my life (first ever wedding of a friend and top it all, my own sister's). I could do nothing to pursue my ambition and I was forced not to work on it even a single day. And also the death of Blackie. Well, enough of crying out. That's not gonna undo anything.

I'm finally happy as the '09 comes to an end. Tomorrow, the new day, the new year, the new decade will be the new chapter of my life. I'm gonna start living my life in my own way once again (sorry friends, your way is not working out for me). I'm tired of doing what is best for me as most of the time I figure out its not. I'm gonna start doing what is more important to me. I hope my life gets back the to be pre '09 or even better.

TATA DOCOMO Friendship Express:

This is not a great ad but execellent music and creativity. The music here is known as A Cappella (music without any instruments). The best part of this ad is that it starts with the basic du-du-du DOCOMO music and finally gets into fusion with Indian Classical. Who ever composed it, Great Job!

Simply Reliance:

One of the best of its kind and a perfect harmony with everything. Awesome Flute by Naveen, awesome choreograph by Prabu Deva and excellent dancing and acting by Hrithik. A simple story of Pied Piper and innovation! Worth Watching a million times!

Vodafone Zoozoo:

I guess most of you will agree with me, this is THE BEST ADS I have seen in a long long time. Lot's of hard work behind this one. Some of you may think its a CGI. But no! Its real humans acting in costumes. And that's what makes these ads even more awesome. They are short, simple and funny. Around 30 ads were created, each about a Vodafone subscription. These ads were made exclusively for IPL 2009.

I was watching a news channel which was playing a segment about expensive mobiles studded with diamonds. I asked myself which is the most expensive mobile in the world. I surfed through and found the top 5 expensive mobiles.

5. Motorola V220 Special Edition = 24,31,751 INR ($51,800)

It is a standard Motorola Mobile studded with 1,200 diamonds and added a keyboard inlaid with 18 carat gold.

4. Vertu Diamond = 41,31,160 INR ($88,000)

The handsets are diamond-encrusted made from platinum. Only 200 of the handsets are produced.

3. Sony Ericsson Black Diamond = 1,40,83,500 INR ($300,000)

Only 5 pieces were produced as of 2007. I'm not sure if many more were produced or not. ICC has aimed for the shorter WC and the Super-8 group has been replaced by the old method Quarter-Finals. 14 teams have been split into 2 groups and a team has to end in the top 4 in the group to get to the Quater-Finals, after which the tournaments becomes a knock-out stage. Plastic Indian Rupee Notes

Finally India too have started printing plastic currency notes. Well, not actually started, but its on trial. In September 2009 Reserve Bank of India decided to use polymer banknotes on trial basis. Initially 100 crore of 10 rupee notes will be introduced. Its lifespan will be about 4 times more than the normal notes. I'm eagerly waiting for those plastic notes.

Also India has minted its first bi-metallic coin. The new 10-rupee Coins are minted with nickel and bronze on the outer side and ferrous steel in the inner side. Here is a picture of our new bi-metallic coin. I got one of it about a month back. I got two of them now.

Chennai Public Transport goes Hi-Tech

MTC will introduce Global Positioning System (GPS) to all bus stops. Every bus stop in the city will soon have a GPS, a vending machine, a public telephone, a cell-phone charging outlet, ceiling fans and security guards. Nearly 500 such bus stops are coming up in the city before September. Now, due to the GPS, one will have an exact idea of how soon the next bus will arrive.

If any bus suffers a break-down or is over-speeding, or even if it decides to take a detour on another route, the fleet managers will know immediately. Apart from all these features, these bus stops might soon have surveillance cameras, FM radio, water vending machine and an ATM machine.

Bangalore had installed GPS to all its Vovlo buses, two years back. But Chennai is going to be the first city in India to have GPS installed to all its buses.

Also Chennai would be the first city to get a Mass Passenger Information System. The commuters can track buses in their mobile phones and internet too.

Nikola Tesla vs Thomas Edison

I was watching the movie 'The Prestige', which is a story of two magicians. The movie also involves the lives of the inventors Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla. According to the movie, Tesla hides from Edison and Edison is interested in destroying Tesla's works. I surfed through the net to find out about these two men and this was what I found.

Thomas Edison is well known for his invention of Direct Current (DC). But what about Nikola Tesla? Have you ever heard of the inventor 'Tesla' or any of his inventions? The only time one might have heard of him in text books is 'Unit of Magnetic Flux Density', which is named after him.

Check through the encyclopedia and find out who discovered the following.

Who discovered Radio? Marconi?
Who discovered X-rays? Roentgen?
Who discovered Vacuum Tube Amlifier? De Forest?
Also check on who discovered the fluorescent bulb, neon lights, speedometer, the automobile ignition system, and the basics behind radar, electron microscope, and the microwave oven.

Very little would the name Tesla be mentioned in these cases, thanks to Edison.

Tesla worked as an assistant to Edison at first. Edison had just invented the electric light bulb, but he needed a system to distribute electricity to houses. He designed a DC (direct current) system, but it had many bugs in it. Edison promised Tesla lots of money in bonuses if he could get the bugs out. Tesla took the challenge and ended up saving Edison over $100,000, which was millions of dollars by today's standards. Edison later refused to keep his promise. Tesla quit not long after that, and Edison spent the rest of his life trying to discredit Tesla (which is the main reason why he is so unknown today).

Google Earth Chennai Updated!

The Chennai City has been updated by Google Earth on May 18th, 2009. Now the city looks more beautiful than what it did previously which was something like 3 yrs old.

Here are some of the screen shots of the new Chennai City from Google Earth.

The first thing I wanted to see as soon as I knew that Chennai was updated was the Kathipara Grade Separator. It looks very beautiful, but will be more beautiful if there is greenery around it. Greenery is also a part of the plan and hence hopefully it will be done in another year.

The new images are taken in an angle such that u can make out the height of the building too, whereas in the previous version, the images were taken exactly overhead. This is clearly seen in this image. Its the thiruvanmiyur junction. We can see the Tidel Park and also make out its height. The foot over bridges are also clearly seen.

Here is the Padi Junction. Looks neat as well.

Here is my College (KCG College Of Technology). The newly built Aeronautical Block is updated and also the atriums are clearly visible this time.

The Prestige - A Review

I came across this movie a few months ago and I was kind of obsessed with it for a week or two. This is a movie of a different kind. Directed by Christopher Nolan (of “The Dark Knight” fame), this movie revolves around the life of two magicians. Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) were assistants to a magician along with Julia McCullough (Piper Perabo), who is Angier’s wife. During one of the shows, Julia is accidentally drowned while performing a trick. Angier blames Borden for the death of his wife as Borden had tied a new knot on Julia’s hands leading to her death. This creates hatred between the two.

Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman

Angier and Borden start their own shows individually with Cutter (Michael Caine) being Angier’s engineer and Olivia (Scarlett Johansson) as his assistant, while Borden works with Fallon, his engineer. Both Angier and Borden set out to destroy each others career. Borden brings out a new trick called, “The Transported Man”, where he throws a ball and go through a door and instantly comes out of the other door to catch the ball. Angier is obsessed on finding out how he plays the trick. But later he creates a similar act, gaining more audiences on his side.

The story follows the two magicians' lives, their tricks, sacrifices and their obsession to find out each others secrets. The story taking place on late 18^th century also collides with the lives of the scientists Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison.

Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman

Both Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale played their roles to perfection. Joan Bergin’s costumes were attractive. Scarlett Johansson was very pretty in her 18^th century attire. The movie is full of secrets and suspense right from scene one and at the end of every scene, a secret or a suspense is revealed. Watch out for the climax!

This movie would keep you on the edge till the end and its a 'Must Watch movie'.

Encounter With Snakes

I have come across Snakes quite a number of times in my life. I have not been attacked from any one so far (luckily) and I hope it will never happen.

The first time I ever came across a snake was around 12 yrs ago. I saw my dad chasing something in the garden with a stick. I thought of helping him when he called out not to come nearby at all. Out of curiosity I went near him and saw a snake trying to crawl out of the garden and my dad nearly killed it.

The second time was as nearly as 3 yrs ago. I came home after the culturals at IIT Saarang. I was too tired and decided to sleep without eating. As I was entering my room, mom called out not to go to the room as there is a snake. I was half asleep already and I went into the room to notice the snake had curled on the window grill, which was very close to the bed. I went straight to the other room and slept off. Only in the following morning i realized that there was a snake in my room and when I asked my mom what happened to it, she replied that my dad killed it.

The third one was the most funniest and the best encounter i ever had. It was during the third semester exams and me along with Jabez and Barath were sitting together (I was at the extreme right) and studying in one of the atriums. Suddenly a guy ran across us from right to left and shouted, "Snake!". I turned to see a snake just a meter away from me. I was nearest to the snake and hence i was more prone to be attacked. I just jumped backwards, out of reach of the snake. The snake kept on crawling and ended up near my bag. My bag was opened and the snake comfortably went inside the bag and came back out. By this time one of the security guard came with a stick and chased it away. I found it really difficult to use that bag since then but luckily my exam didn't go bad that day.

The fourth one had been fairly recent. It was a month ago and I was walking towards my college, talking with my sister over phone. As I was walking I saw a snake crawling from the river to the other side of the road. This time I didn't even bother about the snake and it didn't bother about me.

All these snakes I have come across are of the same species (I don't know which one it is). And I realized that these snakes will not harm any human until it feels insecure. That is, if you don't try to harm these snakes, they will not harm you.

Hi friends!!!

Its been nearly 5 months since I posted or read any of my friends' blog. For the last five months I was completely cut-off from the internet. But now I'm back.

These five months hold some special place in my heart. It has been the best and the hardest time of my life (so far). It was the last semester of my college life and surprisingly my entire class was so close together throughout the semester. We never bunked a single class and almost all of us had the attendance of above 90% (for the first time after first sem).

Having only two days of college in a week (thu and fri) each of us were looking forward for those days. Had the best time of our college life, had lots of fun, played lots of pranks and laughed our guts out. For a change, we celebrated our own farewell with our staffs in the staff room. We bought a huge cake and gave it to our staffs and made each of them give a speech.

The last working day of the college was very sentimental. Most of us ended up crying. And on the last day of exams we chatted, joked around and had the last fun at college.

Now that the college has ended, everyone has parted on their own ways. Most of us have no idea where our future lies. I just wish that each of us find a happy future and hope to be in touch quite regularly.

What Are We Doing?

India has been having political problems with Pakistan and China for years. We might have won certain wars but what have we actually achieved? Did we keep Jammu and Kashmir safe from their invasion? Have a look at the present map of Jammu and Kashmir. The complete northern areas in green now belongs to Pakistan and the eastern area called Aksai Chin belongs to China. Only the orange part belongs to India now.

The famous victory of Kargil War didn't keep Pakistan away from Kashmir but the hard truth is we just kept them from further invasion. With nearly half of our precious Kashmir into the hands of our enemy are we looking to get it back? What are we actually doing? Do our politicians think that Pakistan will give it back to us as a gift if we have "PEACE TALKS"???

I can understand that India least require a war at this point of time when our economy is booming and we are nearing the developed stage. Yet it is unbelievable to think that India isn't trying to get it back at all.

I just hope that India's map in the future will be the same as at Independence (with the full J&K under India).

A/C Bus Station In India

You would have probably heard this news from TV and newspaper that Bharati AirTel has launched India's first ever A/C Bus Station at Kasturiba Street, Bengaluru. Here is a picture of our first ever A/C Bus Station.

It is really nice that India is developing but this is nothing to the one I found on net. Here is a picture of an A/C Bus Station at Curitaba, Brazil. It is simply amazing and our Bharati's is nothing compared to it.

When is India gonna create something as this? No idea! We just have to wait and watch.

Geminids Possible?

The time is 3 am on the day of the Geminids. I just went up to my terrace to have a look at the sky. Just as I hoped there wasn't any clouds. I was really happy about it. But something else started bothering me. It was the full moon. The moon was very bright. It was almost near the zenith (the point exactly over your head). The moon was so bright such that even the great Orion Constellation was very dull. And the stars in the sky was countable. All I could see on the sky other than the moon was the Orion belt, Betelguese, Regiel, Sirius, Regulus, Pollux, Arcturus, Canopus, Capella, Aldebaran, Procyon and ofcourse Saturn. The number of stars in the sky is so easily countable. I wonder how many of the meteors can actually be seen. Its gonna be difficult but I'll never let my hopes down.

Geminids 2008

Hi guys... Its meteor showers tomorrow. Its called Geminids because the meteors appear to originate near the Gemini constellation. Geminids are one the best meteor showers of the year. Its bright and you can catch up as much as 100 meteors an hour. So look around the sky between 8 pm on Dec 13th, saturday until 4am on Dec 14th, sunday.

Hi friends... This is my new blog, named, "Twelfth Dimension". My other blogs Blogspot and Wordpress named, "Fly With a Twitter", are purely about Astronomy. In this blog I will post anything I feel like, including Astronomy, Music, News, Entertainment, Sports, etc.
